JPG were appointed as structural engineers for this container freight handling pad which is located at the north eastern end of the 60-acre Potter Group site near Selby.

The container pad covers an area of 16,500 square feet and was constructed in a 425mm thick steel fibre reinforced concrete slab supported on a sub-base construction up to 1,300mm thick due to the layers of soft peat underlying the site.

The pad takes the form of a gentle ‘S’ shape and was constructed alongside the existing rail track serving the site. The pad is used both for storage of containers and for container loading onto freight trains by 90 tonne mobile reach stackers.
