JPG are appointed as the structural engineer on the new Travelodge lakeside hotel in West Thurrock, Essex. The brand new retail and hotel scheme has a steel frame construction and double storey A3 retail units at ground floor level and a timber framed 4 storey Travelodge above.
The building is situated on the edge of a picturesque man made lake, which has posed some unique challenges on this build. Some of the challenges included designing the on-site drainage as part of a wider balanced drainage system that linked a number lakes upstream and downstream of the site. The lake retaining wall consists of sheet piles which were driven into the underlying chalk. The site attenuation is permeable paving to comply with sustainable urban drainage systems (SUDS) requirements. The project is programmed to finished April 2017.
JPG are designing all of the Civil and Structural aspects of the project for the developers who are the owners of Lakeside shopping centre, one of the largest retail outlets in the UK alongside Marshall Building Contractors.
