JPG were appointed to provide full Civil and Structural pre construction detailed design services. In addition JPG were also appointed to provide post contract site supervision services.
Given this site is a live school campus complex phasing of the works was considered inorder the limit the amount of disruption to pupils during the academic year. The complex site topography and limited space dictated that bespoke design solutions needed to be provided. Careful consideration of the existing buildings in close proximity was needed.
Owing to limited storey heights and to assist with services distribution, exposed flat slab construction was chosen as the principle structural system for the new laboratory building
Precast elements were provided to the sports deck to facilitate a fast track construction programme which will enable an early partial handover to the school. Structural steelwork was chosen for the sports hall framing with long span roof trusses over the halls. All the building structures were detailed in a BIM environment using Autodesk Revit Structure.
