A purpose built, multimillion pound Composites Technology Centre for supercar manufacturer, McLaren has received planning approval for the development on a 1.98 hectare site on the Advanced Manufacturing Park (AMP) in Rotherham.
Designs have been drawn up for Harworth Group plc by The Harris Partnership and Barton Willmore, with the engineering design undertaken by JPG. The plans pave way for the next commercial development – AMPlify, a further 460,000 sq ft of prime space on the AMP. The development includes the creation of a single 75,000 sq ft building for B1, B2 and B8 uses along with associated access, parking, and servicing, landscaping and other infrastructure.
The announcement builds on the continued international success of the AMRC as an epicentre of regional and national economic impact, a source of life-changing apprenticeship opportunities for young people in industry and a large-scale innovation hub for some of the world’s most dynamic businesses.
Developed with the support of Sheffield City Council, the Composites Technology Centre will be responsible for the development and manufacturing of advanced carbon fibre chassis for McLaren Automotive’s supercars. The partnership will create more than 200 jobs through a combined investment of nearly £50 million.
